AAIV Asian American Wellness and Mental Health Seminar: a faith-based perspective

Our sisters got to meet Jon Ido Warden, who is an author and licensed clinical psychologist, in a workshop-style presentation that covered mental health concepts and major issues faced by the Asian American community. We explored and defined an Asian American perspective on emotional wellness and mental health, especially how it relates to religion and faith. We also learned some strategies for dealing with stress and pressure as well as helping to outline resources for those who may seek them. This workshop allowed the discussion of the different mental health factors that affect Asian Americans in specific, and how we can address these factors in a safe and self-helping way. This workshop was great to attend because it raised the awareness of mental health issues amongst the Asian-American community, and offered ways of treating them (through counseling, spiritual guidance, or community).  Many thanks to AAIV for...

Violence Awareness Day

In loving memory of the fallen sister, Valerie Zavala, we strived to promote domestic and campus violence awareness. Setting up in our Student Activities Lobby Area, sisters passed our brochures that focused on the type of violence present on campus and that gave additional resources and connections if needed. We helped promote EVOC, standing for “End Violence on Campus.” EVOC represents all of the services, efforts, and resources dedicated by campus and community agencies to prevent violence before it begins, respond to the needs of victims, and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
